So what exactly is a lambgoat?  I’m not sure, but www.lambgoat.com is a sweet web site focused on all things “hardcore, metal, and other forms of extreme music”.  They are especially known for their raucous community.  Head over there and you’ll find a (temporary) link for us in the upper left, the Quick Links section.  Score.

I have received a lot of (mostly positive) feedback. I want to use this post to begin to respond to some feedback, answer questions and talk about improvements that will be made in the future. All user feedback is in bold.

The site’s awesome, but what’s up with the layout? It’s not bad, but it’s not exactly beautiful either.

Well, I paraphrased that nugget of feedback, but I received similar sentiments many times. The site launched just a couple months ago and our focus was on making the site very functional and easy to use. The layout/design was not a main focus because we wanted to make sure people would use the site before spending a lot of time making it look pretty. It turns out people seem to like our site. So expect an overhaul with a (slightly) better layout/design and many improvements in the (somewhat) near future.

I like the simplicity of the front page, but I think more can be done with it.

Yeah, I guess we thought we’d do our best Google impersonation with our home page. I like it, as did most other people, but we could do more with it. Displaying the most recent setlists posted or, as I mentioned in an earlier post, having a “leader board” for the bands with the most setlists posted are both ideas we have thrown around. So when we make that update I am going to keep referencing, expect some new features on the front page.

How come I can’t search or sort concerts by date, venue, location, etc.?

That’s a good question. So, hopefully, you will be able to soon.

When I upload a YouTube video, why doesn’t the title of it show up on your site?

Again, that’s a good question. Without going in to the reasons why that was initially difficult, let’s just say the titles will appear eventually. Maybe during that update…

Sometimes when I click “view image slideshow” on a setlist page, nothing happens.

That’s because no pictures have been uploaded for that concert yet. Whenever there are pictures for a show, the slideshow will always appear when clicked. In the future, we’ll make it clearer whether or not pictures have been uploaded.

There is a lot more feedback to respond to, but I want to get in the habit of making short, very readable posts. So, in the next few days, I’ll post again.

We surpassed 2,000 setlists today. All the posts were created in the 2 months since the site launched in late January and many entries have images and video to complement the setlists. So, basically what I’m trying to say is, if you helped add content to the site, you’re awesome.

ShowMeTheSetlist.com is dedicated to not only being a great destination web site, but also a great content provider. We want to be as open as possible with our data which includes our setlists, photos, and videos. People all across the internet help make our web site great by creating entries, so why not share it?

Therefore I’m very pleased to announce our first content feed. We partnered with SMNnews.com to share our metal/rock setlists. We’re on the left-side as you scroll down. SMN News is an excellent music news site. The site has very active forums and even hosts the official forums for many bands including Between the Buried and Me, The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Red Chord, HORSE the Band, and Job For A Cowboy.

With well over 600 artists currently on our site, we have quite the variety of genres of represented. Some of the bands with the most entries include Exodus, Van Halen, Goo Goo Dolls, Duran Duran, & Hot Hot Heat. We’ve had some interest in people seeing a “leader board” where the artists with the most setlists posted are featured, so if that appears one day you’ll know why.

Remember the site is a wiki, so anyone can add any artist or setlist they want. It’s not meant to be a site for just one genre or another. It’s a platform to organize setlists and create a concert history for any and every musician. You might be a metalhead, an indie rocker or just a music snob, but you never know when you want to see that Justin Timberlake setlist.

Pretty cool site, huh? ShowMeTheSetlist.com is a new web site that enables users to catalog the music concert experience like never before. The web site allows users to create individual pages for each live show. Concert-goers post song setlists, discuss and review performances, as well as create online galleries full of photos, videos, scanned ticket stubs, gig posters, actual setlists and more. It’s like creating a virtual scrapbook page for each show, except much cooler. Click here for more about the site, including what the hell a setlist is.

The concept for this site first came to me several years ago and has evolved significantly since then. I am a frequent concert-goer and I love the live show experience. However, I have always liked to check out recent and past setlists for any artist before going to a concert. For me, I enjoy a concert most when I know the songs being played. That may seem obvious, but it allows you to have a more satisfying experience by having a deeper connection with the music. It’s not unusual to go see a band whose entire music catalog you do not own. You may be missing out on some classic songs that will be played live. Also, if I have already seen a band several times, I like to check out past setlists to see if the setlist has changed or if the artist is playing any new songs on tour. Going to a concert can be expensive and time-consuming so it’s nice to know it’s going to be worth it.

Giving people a platform to post and organize setlists was, and still is, the core idea of the site. But I didn’t want the site to just be a directory of setlists. I wanted this site to be a place people could gather after a concert and collaboratively create something really engaging and fun. From linking to YouTube videos, to reviewing each show to creating online galleries filled with images, I hope you enjoy the site.
